Groundbreaking Ceremony Marks Progress of InnoQube Switzerland
Balzers/Chur, 05 November 2021
The realization of InnoQube Switzerland, the newest innovation center in the Alpine region, is progressing with great strides. With the groundbreaking ceremony on November 5, 2021, representatives of the ITW Unternehmensgruppe and InnoQube Switzerland launched the forward-looking project in the presence of the Mayor of Chur, Urs Marti, and other representatives of the authorities.
Representatives from the ITW Unternehmensgruppe, InnoQube Switzerland, the city of Chur, and the contracted construction companies came together for the groundbreaking ceremony on November 5, 2021, marking the commencement of construction for the latest innovation center in the Alpine region. Following an intensive planning and preparation period, InnoQube Switzerland will be realized in the Rossboden area, with funding of approximately 25 million Swiss francs from private sources. The ITW Unternehmensgruppe, the investor and project developer based in Balzers (LI), is demonstrating its commitment to Chur as a business location and future innovation hub. Dr. Martin Meyer, CEO of the ITW Unternehmensgruppe, expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “We are delighted that InnoQube Switzerland is now becoming a reality after a long planning phase and are convinced that, with the new innovation center in the Alpine region, we are creating a place of innovation, inspiration, and progress that will become known far beyond the Swiss borders. Our thanks go, in particular, to the Mayor of Chur and the authorities, who have supported us extraordinarily well throughout all phases of the planning.”
The anticipated completion of InnoQube Switzerland is scheduled for the end of 2023. Starting in 2024, the center, spread across a total area of 11,200 m2, will foster research, work, and most importantly, innovation. Future-oriented companies, start-ups, and spin-offs will find a permanent or temporary home in this new innovation hub. The building, designed with a lighthouse effect, will feature flexible office space for approximately 300 workstations, various co-working and meeting spaces, an event arena, a restaurant, and a daycare center. The operators of InnoQube Switzerland and the businesses within it will benefit from state-of-the-art infrastructure offering ample flexibility. Open to the public, InnoQube Switzerland will be characterized by an exciting interplay of work, research, and living.
The focus now lies on filling the four-story building, which boasts an interior design reminiscent of the Colosseum in Rome, with life and incorporating the specific needs of companies into the detailed plans. “We see InnoQube Switzerland as a base camp for innovations, and our offering is aimed specifically at start-ups, spin-offs, and companies in the fields of research, development, and digitalization,” emphasized Franco Quinter, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the operating company. The themes of Health & Performance will play a decisive role within InnoQube Switzerland.
